About This Quote

In 1923, when he was a mere seven years old, John Paton was abducted from his home in the Scottish highlands and taken to the American Indian School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The school was a federal institution for Native American children. In the months leading up to his abduction, John’s family had been trying to remove him from the school. But they couldn’t get their act together in time. After he was taken, John endured more than two years of physical and emotional abuse at the school.
